Choudwar: A woman was set on fire allegedly by her husband and in-laws for not fulfilling their dowry demands, following which three members from the in-laws family, including the husband, were arrested here Monday.
The victim, Kalpana Das, a resident of Choudwar NAC Ward-8 was allegedly set ablaze by her in-laws Sunday evening when she returned from her parental home. She has suffered 90 per cent burns and is undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital, said a source.
Police sources said the victim’s husband Trilochan Das and in-laws Manoj Das and Sima Das allegedly poured kerosene on her and put her on fire. Kalpana’s father has stated that the in-laws were torturing her for dowry.
Based on the victim’s statement and her father’s complaint, police registered a case (411/17) and arrested the accused under Sections 498 (a), 306 and 34 of IPC. The accused have been forwarded to court while further investigations are on, police said.
