Woman stabbed in broad daylight, critical

Paikamal: A 28-year-old woman, working at Paikamal Utkal Gramya Bank was stabbed in broad daylight Monday.

The accused stabbed her repeatedly until she fell unconscious on the road. He then fled on a motorbike before passers-by could overpower him. The woman has been identified as Manisha Jena.

The incident occurred around 10 am Monday when the woman was on her way to the bank from her residence. She was attacked by the youth, who was reportedly waiting for her.

The woman sustained grievous injuries on her hand, face and belly. Passers-by got her admitted to Paikamal government hospital.

After preliminary treatment, she was shifted to Padmapur government hospital from where she was referred to Burla-based VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) as her condition worsened.  According to doctors, the victim’s condition was critical because of excess blood loss.

Preliminary investigation revealed the accused hailes from Khariar road area. However, no exact reason of the attack was known yet.

Locals suspect the attack to be a fallout of a failed affair. On the other hand, when contacted, Paikamal IIC Abhimanyu Nayak said there was no complaint lodged in this connection.   PNN
