Bhawanipatna: A hardcore woman Maoist of Chhattisgarh surrendered before Kalahandi police Monday.
Ratna (20), a native of Palghura village under Pamed police station in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh and a member of Nagabali- Banshdhara- Ghumusar division of the banned outfit, was engaged to expand Maoist network in Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Rayagada districts. She was carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh on her head, said SP Brijesh Kumar Ray and CRPF deputy commandant Suryamani Behera at a press meet Monday.
An Insas rifle and 24 live bullets were seized from her possession during her surrender. She was also looking after the security of Maoist leader Modren Balakrishnan. She narrated how male cadres tortured their women counterparts.
She decided to surrender after central committee member Nikhil and state in-charge Modren Balakrishnan alias Manoj and another woman ultra deserted her and fled for safer destinations during a fierce encounter with security forces in Manaska reserve forest under Sadar block February 8 and 9.
She roamed aimlessly in the jungle searching for her colleagues but none came to her rescue. She finally decided to surrender when she came face-to-face with CRPF jawans combing Machul reserve forest under Bijepur police outpost. PNN
