Nayagarh: Tension gripped Jadupur village under Lakhmiprasad panchayat of this block after a man misbehaved with village women while they were returning from nearby forests with firewood. A complaint has been registered with the local police.
Sources said some trees and branches had been uprooted during the Nor’wester rain and wind two days ago. Some village women went to the forests to collect the wood for their hearths. While they were returning home, the man stopped them on the way and abused them for entering the forest.
The women said they collected the wood to celebrate the Purnima festival, but this didn’t help and the man continued abusing them.
Saturday, a group of women led by Asanti Nahak, Topoi Nahak and Pratima Nahaka gheraoed the Sadar police station, seeking the arrest of the man. Sadar IIC Manorama Mallick said a police team would go to the village to try and settle the matter.
