Narla: Students of Panchayat Junior Women’s College here in Kalahandi district, who were deprived of appearing for Plus-II examinations, met the superintendent of police and the district collector demanding arrest of the college principal.
They urged the administration to take immediate measures to make special arrangements to conduct their examinations separately. They also demanded that the college return their admission and other fees.
District collector assured them of discussing with the regional director of the higher education department and take measures to conduct examination for them.
It may be mentioned here that 172 students of the college enrolled in arts and commerce streams were deprived of taking Plus-II examination as the institution was running without permission from CHSE.
Irate students of the college had ransacked the institution March 2 when Plus-II examination began. They also set the office of Jeevan Dhara, a private organisation running the college, afire.
Later, over 100 students went to meet Narla block development officer. In his absence, they held talks with the tehsildar, but it yielded no results. They along with their guardians blocked Bhawanipatna-Bhubaneswar State Highway. The administration and the police had assured them of taking measures to look into the matter and arrest the culprits.
The police, after 15 days of the incident, arrested college director L Gunanidhi March 16 and produced him in court next day. He was later produced in court after his bail petition was rejected. Police had taken him on a two-day remand, which ended Friday.
