World Cup Hockey: BDA plans landscaping, plantation along major roads

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) is planning extensive landscaping and tree planting along 40 km of major roads in the city ahead of the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018, which will be held in the capital city from November 28.
The BDA will be floating a tender shortly for landscaping of around 40 km of major roads. This will include roads and junctions, traffic islands, medians and avenue plantations along with supply and planting of plants, planter boxes, barricades, dustbins etc.
The plantation drive will cover planting of flowerbeds, grass, lawns, shrubs, hedge rows and trees. The project executor will supply planter boxes and hanging planters along with tree guards and railings. However, the executor will be allowed to innovate while implementing the project and also suggest alternatives.
The project includes planting, watering, pruning, watch and ward and maintenance of landscape works for a period of four years. The project also has provisions for the engagement of dedicated gardening staff for proper maintenance.
Special focus has been given to select hardy, non-browsable tree and shrub species to keep cattle at bay. While native plants and shrubs will be included for landscaping, grown saplings of rain tree, Jacaranda, Plumeria, Tabebuia, Juniperus Communis and palm varieties are planned for the tree plantation drive.
Landscaping is planned along major roads like the road from the Biju Patnaik statue near Airport to KIIT Square, Sishu Bhavan Square to Ram Mandir Square, Raj Mahal Square to AG Square, AG Square to Acharya Vihar Square, Airport Square to Sishu Bhawan Square, Udyan Marg, Raj Bhawan Square to Siripur Square, Acharya Vihar Square to Kalinga Hospital Square, Acharya Vihar to Baramunda Bus Stand, Ekamra Chowk to Siripur Square and Ekamra Chowk to Palashpalli Square.
Similarly, the 20 plus traffic junctions where landscaping is being planned are Airport Circle (Biju Patnaik statue island), Ekamra Chowk traffic island, AG Square and Ambedkar statue island, Rajv Bhawan Square and Madhusudan Das statue island, Power House Square and junction, Jayadev Vihar Square and all islands, Kalinga Hospital Square and Gangadhar Meher statue island, KIIT Square, Master Canteen roundabout island, Ram Mandir Square, Vani Vihar Square, Unit VIII Gopabandhu Square, Capital Hospital Square, PMG Square, NICCO Park Square, Acharya Vihar Square, Damana Square, Infocity Square and the World Square.
