Bhubaneswar: After 31 inmates tested positive for Covid-19 in a hostel of Xavier Institute of Management in Bhubaneswar (XIMB), the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared the institute micro-containment zone Saturday.
A source informed that the infected students have been kept under isolation in the hostel and necessary medical assistance is being provided by the civic body.
“Decision to contain XIMB was taken after 31 students of it tested positive for Covid-19. Contact tracing is presently being carried out by a team of BMC. The team will conduct RT-PCR tests of remaining students staying in other hostels of XIMB,” a senior official of the civic body said.

It is pertinent to mention, recent spike in the Covid-19 cases in Bhubaneswar has forced the civic body to impose restrictions in order to check unnecessary movement of people.
BMC has already declared 11 places in Bhubaneswar as containment zones Friday evening to contain spread of Covid-19. The civic body will supply essentials for those residing in the containment zones.
During second wave of Covid-19, the BMC had sealed XIMB campus after many of its students tested positive for the virus.
A total of 3,679 fresh Covid-19 cases including 1,223 from Khurda district were detected in the last 24 hours. Khurda was followed by Sundargarh with 582 new infections, Sambalpur (372) and Cuttack (310). The total caseload includes 384 in the age group of newborn to 18 years, taking tally in the state to 10,66,155. Active caseload in the state now stands at 11,663.
Omicron tally in Odisha reached 75 Saturday with the detection of 14 more cases, which has potential to trigger expected third wave.
