Youth awaits assistance from govt for treatment

Daspalla: A matter has come to light in which the administration has turned a blind eye towards a bed-ridden youth of Pathuria village in Nachhipur panchayat of Daspalla block who is suffering for being born in a poor family.

The youth, Govind Behera (20) lives with his father, a daily-wage labourer, mother and three sisters.

The six-member family lives in a hut being deprived of various welfare schemes launched by both the Centre and the state.

In a bid to shoulder the responsibilities of his family, Govind gave up education and chose to work at a shop to earn a living.

But haplessly he developed a wound on his back two year ago. The infection gradually aggravated and affected his spine following which he was unable stand.

The family left no stone unturned to arrange funds to bear the cost for treatment of Govind and took him to Bhubaneswar for check-up. But in vain, the doctors suggested a surgery to cure Govind.

Realising that the cost of the surgery was out of their budget, they returned to their village in disappointment.

From block administration, Collector’s grievance cell to legislator, the family knocked every possible door for financial aid. Even as the authorities assured them of financial aid, but no one has stepped forward yet.

On the other hand, the family is at stake being helpless to see bedridden Govind groaning in pain.

In this connection, Nachhipur Sarpanch Raghunath Nayak said the district administration should look into the matter soon so that Govind can be treated at the earliest.
