Khallikote: A man was allegedly beaten to death by three to four persons near a petrol pump at Keshapur area under Khallikote block of Ganjam district late Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as Shankar Pahan, a resident of Ramachandrapur village.
According to locals, the incident occurred when the bike-borne Shankar was returning to home from the petrol pump. He was intercepted by miscreants who attacked him with wooden sticks and stones. Shankar suffered grievous injuries and died on the spot. Locals tried to apprehend the attackers, but they managed to escape.
On being informed, Khallikote police reached the spot, seized the body and sent it for post-mortem.
However, the exact reason for the alleged murder of Shankar is yet to be ascertained. Sources said that it may be over an affair in which Shankar was involved. An investigation into the matter is underway and the cops have also launched a manhunt to nab the accused. A forensic team has reached the spot to collect evidences from the crime scene.
