Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Pradesh Youth Congress Saturday held its executive body meeting at the state Congress headquarters here.
The meeting, chaired by state Youth Congress president Ranjit Patra, was attended by Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Bhakta Charan Das along with several senior and youth leaders.
Das urged the Youth Congress to strengthen its grassroots network and independently launch initiatives to mobilise young people.
He stressed that the organisation should spearhead movements against the ruling government, starting from the booth level.
Das alleged that Odisha’s youth have been “suppressed, neglected, and victimised” for the past 25 years and continue to bear the brunt of rising unemployment.
He noted that nearly 11 lakh jobless youth have registered for employment and are now expressing their frustration through street protests.
Mahesh Deshmukh presented a draft action plan for the next three months, detailing how protests, awareness drives, and organisational activities would be conducted across districts and assembly constituencies.
He urged state office-bearers to spend more time at the grassroots to strengthen the Youth Congress network.
Addressing the gathering, Patra said the organisation has been working as the voice of Odisha’s neglected youth.
He alleged that Odia youth are being overlooked in both public and private sector recruitments and vowed that the Youth Congress would soon launch agitations to press the issue.
It is worth noting that earlier in the day, the OPCC constituted a ‘Youth Connect Committee’ under the directives of its president, Bhakta Charan Das.
The initiative seeks to re-engage young people and strengthen the party’s base at the grassroots level.
