Jagatsinghpur: A youth was allegedly brutally assaulted by the policemen at Jagatsinghpur police station after taking him into custody.
The matter came to fore after the youth who sustained grievous injuries could not bear the expenses for his treatment.
According to reports, a complaint was lodged against Lingaraj Das for verbally abusing the local sarpanch. Acting on the complaint, three policemen stormed into Lingaraj’s house in the night and took him to the police station. The police allegedly thrashed Lingaraj and threatened to book him under the SC and ST act.
Jagatsinghpur police station IIC Rajnikant Mishra said the woman sarpanch had lodged a complaint against Santosh Pradhan and Lingaraj Das for verbally abusing her September 12.
Acting on the complaint, police took both of them into custody September 13 night, he added.
However, no action was taken against them because the sarpanch had withdrawn her complaint September 14, the IIC said.
