Rayagada: Clicking selfies on a river cliff cost a youth his life as he fell into the river and drowned. The incident was reported from this district Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Ganga Raju of T Gangaraju of Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh.
According to reports, Raju had come to visit the Maa Majhighariani temple in the district along with his friends Tuesday morning. After offering prayers in the temple, he along with his friends went to the hanging bridge over Nagavali river, close to the temple.
While taking selfies on his mobile phone on the hanging bridge, he slipped and fell into the water body. He tried to swim to safety, but in vain as heavy tides pulled him into deep water and he was swept away.
On being informed, Fire personnel reached the spot and recovered the lifeless body from the river. A case of unnatural death was registered in this connection and the body was sent for autopsy.
