Berhampur: Sadar police here arrested a youth on charge of rape of a 16-year old girl from backward community Saturday.
The accused Pinku Sahu (21), a co-villager was taken for medical examination along with the victim. He was produced in Special POCSO court in this town and remanded to judicial custody after rejection of his bail plea.
The incident occurred when the victim was returning home December 19. Sahu waylaid the girl and picked her to a nearby mango orchard and raped her.
Family members searched for her and traced her in the orchard. Sahu fled on seeing them. The victim’s father lodged a complaint in Sadar police station December 20. Police started an investigation and arrested Sahu Saturday.
