Jatni: A one-sided love affair took an ugly turn when a youth allegedly killed the uncle of the girl he was in love with at Taraboi village here Wednesday night.
Sudhansu Mishra, the owner of a drug store owner, was allegedly attacked by Biswajit Mohapatra alias Bapu, with a machete Wednesday night leading to his death.
The accused was in love with the deceased’s niece, according to sources. However, the girl’s family arranged her marriage with another youth. Bapu then allegedly decided to vent his anger.
Mishra was in his drug store at Taraboi market when Bapu came to the store with a machete at 9 pm and allegedly attacked him. Mishra sustained grievous injuries on his head and collapsed. Villagers rushed him to the district headquarters hospital. The man was later shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar where he was declared dead.
The death triggered tension in the village with hundreds of villagers blocking the main road by burning tyres Thursday. The agitators demanded the immediate arrest of the accused. ACP Tapan Kumar Patnaik and Jatni police station inspector Sujit Pradhan reached the spot with other police personnel and pacified the agitators.
The agitation was called off after the police assured the agitators that the accused would be nabbed at the earliest.The accused is the son of a police officer, sources said.Police have registered a case and initiated a probe.
