Balasore: Amid protests throughout the country over the Central government launched ‘Agnipath’ scheme, an Indian Army aspirant died by suicide in Soro area of Balasore district, police said Friday.

The deceased, Dhananjay Mohanty, was a resident of Tentei village. He had cleared the physical fitness test almost a year back and was hopeful of clearing the written examination. He was preparing for it even though it was cancelled several times.

Dhananjay had received the admit card for the examination scheduled to be held August 30. However, following the announcement of ‘Agnipath’ scheme, it was cancelled once again, his family members said.

Since then, Mohanty was under severe mental stress and allegedly hung himself to death. Prior to taking the extreme step, Mohanty had texted ‘goodbye’ to his brother and friends, requesting them to take care of his parents.

Notably, Centre launched the ‘Agnipath’ scheme Wednesday that is being vehemently opposed by Army aspirants in different parts of the country.
