Youth plays Shravan Kumar to protest ‘injustice’

Baripada: In a novel protest against alleged injustice meted out to him by police, a youth has been carrying his elderly parents on shoulders with the help of slings in Baripada in order to capture attention of  people and seek their support in his fight against injustice.

Kartik Sahu, a resident Mohanpur under Morada block in Mayurbhanj, was found with his parents being carried on slings on court premises Wednesday.

A large number of curious people gathered around him to know what the matter was. Many though sympathised and supported him in this matter, they expressed helplessness as the case was sub judice. Some termed him as modern day Sahravan Kumar.

It was learnt that Morada police had arrested him in July 2009 on charge of raping a woman. He was sent to jail. Though he was released on bail, he has been protesting in this manner over last seven years against the ‘police conspiracy.’

“Police arrested me on a false case. The case is in the court. I’m innocent. As I am a daily wager, I can’t afford to fight the case in the court,” Kartik claimed.

He said he has been moving about places to lodge his protest against the frame-up by the police. As he was a daily wager, he had sought the help of the administration and apprised the collector of the matter, but to no avail.

Ha also stated that he had even drawn the attention of senior police officials about his case, but nothing has happened as yet. He said his parents get pension while an Indira Awas has not been made available to his father, though his name was enlisted.  PNN
