Jajpur: A youth was swept away in Kharashrota river while trying to rescue his sister at Binjharpur area in Jajpur district Wednesday.
According to reports, Hemant Jena of Kapasi village at Sanasuar panchayat near Jajpur Sadar had gone to Binjharpur to meet a local magician along with his mentally-challenged sister Chhabi Jena.
While they were going to the magician’s house located on the banks of Kharashrota, Chhabi jumped into the swelling river.
Hemant also jumped into the flooded river to rescue Chhabi. However, Hemant went missing.
Chhabi has been later rescued by a youth, reports said.
Though the local residents informed the fire department, none came to the rescue because the fire service personnel were on indefinite strike.
