Kuanrmunda: Three youths, posing themselves as Maoists, were arrested for seeking ransom money from a family at Raeboga in Sundargarh district.
The accused are Sameer Kerketa (24), Premsagar Soreng (22) and Akshaya Tirki (19).
Registering a case under sections 387, 506 and 34 of IPC, IIC Bijay Singh produced the trio in a court.
The arrest was made on the basis of the complaint from Marium Soreng of Bhaisalbadi, police said.
Sameer, Premsagar and Akshaya, all wearing helmets, reached Marium’s house on a bike February 17.
Both Marium and her husband Kamil Soreng were away from home when the trio handed over a pamphlet to their son, asking him to give the letter to his father.
After Marium and Kamil reached home from Salangabahal market, their son narrated the events to his parents.
According to the pamphlet, the couple has been asked to come to Turia bridge with Rs 30,000 February 21 and Rs 40,000 February 25.
They were also threatened of dire consequences if they ignore the directions in the pamphlet.
The trio knocked their doors again, Friday and reminded them of the instructions in the pamphlet.
If the money was not delivered, the family would be eliminated, the trio threatened before leaving.
Eventually, Marium decided to seek the help of police and registered a complaint accordingly.
