Bhubaneswar: Rich tributes were paid to legendary playback singer of Hindi films Late Manna Dey at a musical evening Ae Bhai Zara Dekh Ke Chaloheld at Rabindra Mandap by Sushma Sangeet Sadan Wednesday .
Young singers of film industry Randeep Palit, Bandish Palit and Nandini Mohanty sung 23 best and evergreen songs of Manna De including Bhay Bhanjana (Basant Bahar), O Duniya Ke Rakhwale (Baiju Bawra), Phir Kahin Koi Phool Khila (Anubhav) and Parda Hai Parda (Amar Akbar Anthony). Director Lakshmi Kanta Palit of Sadan-fame said Manna Dey had been endowed with an iconic voice in the industry and had sung innumerable songs in his long musical career. He was among the the most versatile singers who had essayed every kind of song right from romantic, emotional to humourous. The first song of the programme was sung by Bandish Palit who started the evening with Manna’s first iconic song in his long musical career, which is Bhay Bhanjana from the film Basant Bahar starring Bharat Bushan.
The second song of the evening was rendered by Randeep Palit who sung O duniya Ke Rakhwale from the movie Baiju Bawra. Randeep and Nandini Mohanty presented a duet Chunri Sambhaal Gori from the film Baharon Ke Sapne and Tasveer Teri Dil Mein (Maya). Chief guest Jagannath Pradhan who addressed the gathering said the present generation had no singer who can match the versatility of old era singers such as Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. Manna Dey was the most underrated among his peer group, pointed out Laxmikanta Palit. While Manna Dey came to be identified with classical/philosophical numbers, many of them were chartbusters too, he added. The musical evening concluded with Bandish Palit singing an Oriya song Gela basarara dina sarigala from the movie Ghara Sansara.
