Bhubaneswar: With the acceptance of Assembly Speaker Pradip Amat, Congress Legislator Party (CLP) has lost one member (Koraput MLA Krushna Chandra Sagaria) and got tribal MLA George Tirkey.
Amat declared in the House that he has accepted the resignation of Koraput MLA Sagaria November 6 this year in accordance with the Odisha Legislative Assembly norm 168 (2). With this approval, the 144-Koraput (SC) Assembly constituency seat stands vacant, he said.
Similarly, the Speaker said he has also accepted Samata Kranti Dal (SKD) MLA (Biramitrapur) and tribal leader Tirkey’s application as an MLA of Congress party. “I have accepted the application of Tirkey as Congress MLA November 2, this year. With this development, he has been given seat No 11 in H block of the House,” he further declared. The CLP leader had also formally apprised the Speaker about the merger of SKD in Congress. In September, Tirkey had joined the Congress party in presence of party president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi.
Meanwhile, the House panel constituted to investigate breach of privilege of the House and its members by Delhi-based journalist Abhijit Iyer Mitra, has submitted its report to Assembly.
Panel chairman Narasingha Mishra said, “The Committee has submitted its report to the Speaker today. However, since the Assembly proceedings have been adjourned for today, the report will now be tabled tomorrow.”
