Rourkela: A recently opened cyber police station of Rourkela has no modern equipment to probe cyber crimes. It was inaugurated with a lot of fanfare January 13 and people then thought they will not have to run from pillar to post to lodge an FIR for cyber offences. However, no complaints have been lodged here as there are no equipment to support investigation pertaining to cyber crimes.
“I went to cyber police station to lodge a complaint two days ago as I became a victim of a cyber fraud. However, the police did not receive my complaint and told me to go to Jhirpani PS.” Ranjit Patnaik of Koel Nagar, said.
As the police station is under the administrative control of CID (CB) Cuttack, SP Rourkela has no control over it.
“To run a cyber police station certain important gadgets are required. To detect call details, we need certain software which is not available here. Even state-of-the art computers are not installed. We are forced to turn away complainants.” said an officer of the cyber police station.
The inspector of cyber police station, Serofina Xess, said all the devices would be installed in the police station soon. All requirements to make it operational have been sent to the Crime Branch.
“We have sent a charter of demands to CID (CB) Cuttack. We expect these can be supplied us within one week. Once we get these equipment, we can receive all complaints” she said. PNN
