Chhatrapur: A lady doctor who allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a moving train near Chhatrapur railway station was under severe mental stress before taking the extreme step, a report said Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Dr Archana Dash, daughter of Kusum Prava Mishra and Raghunath Dash, of Srinagar Sahi in Chhatrapur and a doctor at Sundarpur health centre in this block. She was married to Dr Anjan Kumar Dash of Gadakana in Bhubaneswar.
The police registered a case against eight persons including her husband over a complaint filed by her mother and started an investigation. The Berhampur Government Railway Police has also registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem.
Kusum has alleged that her daughter committed suicide due to severe mental stress arising out of the strained relationship with her husband and in-laws after being tortured mentally and physically by them.
She was living with her parents due to the dispute with her husband. “Recently, my daughter had received a notice on a divorce petition filed by her husband from Bhubaneswar Family Court to appear before it and record her statement September 10,” Kusum said.
Archana was left heartbroken and pushed into stress after receiving the notice, Kusum said.
“The in-laws had been torturing my daughter for long,” Raghunath alleged. She left home in the early morning and committed suicide on the railway track, he said.
What is more surprising is that her husband and in-laws did not participate in her last rites despite being informed by her parents, Kusum claimed.
Archana married Anjan, a cardiac anesthesiologist at a private hospital at Gajapati Nagar, in Bhubaneswar December 4, 2013.
As per reports, the couple was at odds owing to which the woman was staying at her parent’s place.
“We have recovered the body and it has been sent for post-mortem. Further investigation is on into the case,” Sukanta Bhoi, GRP IIC said.
