Bhubaneswar: Nayapalli area has become the favuorite place for motorcycle thieves, with miscreants roaming about near Indra Dhanu (ID) Market looking for an opportunity to steal two-wheelers, according to police sources.
“The miscreants mainly target Hero Honda CD Deluxe motorcycles. They aim to sell the engines for `10,000 to `15,000. These engines can be used as small generators,” said a police source.
“Police had recently arrested two persons for stealing CD Deluxe bikes. One person was arrested for stealing a motorcycle near Hotel Crown, while another person was arrested for stealing a CD Deluxe motorcycle near Pal Heights,” said a source.
“Miscreants from different parts of the state are taking shelter in Salia Sahi area here and most of them are getting involved in such crimes,” said the source. Nayapalli police officials said a constable has been deputed near ID Market in the evening to prevent motorcycle thefts.
“The parking place of ID Market is vulnerable to theft. We deploy a constable rank officer at the market every evening to prevent motorcycle thefts. The constable is present over there from 6 PM to 9:30 PM,” he said.
At least 852 vehicles were stolen from the city in 2015, while 795 were stolen from here in 2014, according to commissionerate police data.
