Deogarh: In a shocking incident, a man who was critically injured after being mauled by a bear had to be taken to a hospital on a bullock cart as an ambulance didn’t showed up.
The bizarre incident was reported from Rangamathia under Reamal block in this district Tuesday.
Sources said the victim Lingaraj Sahu (52) earned his living by working as a farmhand. The incident occurred when Sahu was on his way to a farm through a forest on Rangamatia-Hariharpur road.
A bear appeared from nowhere and pounced on him. The animal badly mauled Sahu who suffered multiple injuries.
On hearing him scream, passersby rushed to his rescue and chased away the animal.
They requisitioned an ambulance, but it never arrived. After waiting for some time, the villagers arranged a bullock cart and rushed him to Chendipada government hospital in Angul district where his condition remained critical.
Due to the ongoing strike by ambulance employees, the ambulance could not reach the village, sources said. PNN
