Bhubaneswar, Jan 31: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Saturday conducted simultaneous raids on the offices of Micro Finance Limited, a chit fund company, at 14 places across Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Berhampur.
The CBI officials raided the house of Ajay Swain, former personal assistant of commissioner-cum-secretary, panchayati raj, in unit IX area, the residence of Durga Prasad Mishra, one of the directors of Microfinance Limited, and the residence of retired IAS officer Jugal Kishore Satpathy in Khandagiri area.
The CBI officials also raided the residence of Ashok Patnaik, one of the directors of the company, in Khapuria, Cuttack. Sources said officials also raided the firm’s head office in Berhampur.
A senior CBI official said the Sahid Nagar residence of Suratha Das, a director of the company, was also raided. “I have never been to the office of the company and have not been involved in any of the dealings and transactions of the company,” said Das.
Das claimed that he was invited to become a director of the company and not to participate in any transaction. “After reports of irregularities by the company came to fore, I tendered my resignation,” he said.
This was the second raid by SIT on the company after Micro Finance Limited continued to accept deposits from people till its premises were sealed by the state CID after the chit fund scam broke in late 2012.
