Bhubaneswar: The state government will finalise a new Renewable Energy Policy very soon to promote green energy in state, informed Energy Minister Pranab Prakash Das in the Assembly Tuesday.
Das made the announcement in a written reply to MLA Pradip Purohit and added the state government has also planned to implement roof-top solar panel projects across all major cities.
The Green Energy Development Corporation of Orissa Limited (GEDCOL) will implement the project in urban areas of the state.
GEDCOL and the Central Electricity Supply Utility have signed a 25-year project implementation agreement with Azure Power Mercury Private Limited to develop a grid-connected rooftop solar power project in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
The project, with a minimum installed capacity of 4 MW, will be set up on government buildings in the twin cities, said the minister.
“Further, GEDCOL is also looking forward to replicate this scheme in other towns/urban areas in the state. In the first phase, Berhampur, Sambalpur, and Rourkela towns are proposed for taking up roof-top solar photo voltaic projects on government buildings in the ensuing years,” said the minister, adding the project is scheduled to be completed by September 2017.
He added that the state government has planned to develop 1000 MW solar park in a clustered manner under Ultra Mega Solar Power Project (UPSPP) scheme of the Centre.
A detailed project has been prepared for the solar park and submitted to Union ministry of new and renewable energy, he said. The state government has directed district collectors to identify 5,000 acres of land for the purpose.
