Rohtak, Dec 28: Orissa speedsters Basant Mohanty (3/40), Suryakant Pradhan (3/35) and Deepak Behera (3/33) ripped apart Haryana on a green top here at the Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium, as they returned with three wickets each on the first day of a Ranji Trophy cricket tie here.
Much to their liking, the visitors won the toss and chose to field on the cold morning. The rest was the domination day of the Orissa pacers as they predictably bundled out the hosts for a paltry 127 in 41.1 overs.
Basant struck first for the visitors as clean bowled Haryana opener NR Saini on the first ball of the sixth over of the game. Five balls later, it was Suryakant’s turn to repeat Basant’s act as the former cruised through a clueless Sunny Singh’s defence, putting the visitors on the front foot very early in the game.
However, AA Barot (21) and S Rana (18) did manage to negotiate the chill, pace and bounce for the next 12 overs, but their effort lost steam in the 20th over as Barot was out off Deepak and Rana was run out by Girija Rout in the 24th over. The rest of the hosts’ batters couldn’t stand the hostile conditions.
