Cuttack: Md Raza made it to his maiden semifinals of the Senior Snooker State Championship after beating Akram Khan in a quarterfinal match at the Cuttack Club here Friday.
Raza pipped Akram 3-2 (40-31, 68-35, 60-1, 49-60,3-66). In other quarterfinal matches Asutosh Padhy edged out Rumit Gupta 4-3 (16-57,58-35,60-26,9-50,66-14,33-63,79-25), while Nishant Biswal trounced Sidharth Sen 4-1 (74-27,33-58,64-26,59-31,63-24). The semifinal matches will be played Saturday.
Medals galore
Boxers of Bhubaneswar Boxing Association (BBA) bagged 13 medals including four gold, six silver and three bronze medals in the recently concluded All Orissa Boxing Championship at Berhampur.
Madhusmita Sahoo won the gold medal in the senior women’s 51kg category while Pranati Pradhan took the top honours in the 64kg category. Swapna Kumar Nayak clinched the yellow metal in the senior men’s 74kg category and Narayan Jena emerged champion in the sub-junior men’s 28-30kg category. All the boxers were trained under Padmanav Patra.
