Jatni: Odisha Scouts and Guides cadets lodged a complaint at Khurda Road railway police station Friday evening alleging they were misbehaved with and attacked by some railway staff, including a TTE, at Bangalore station November 5.
According to the complaint, 20 cadets of Scouts and Guides from Khurda Road and Sambalpur divisions under East Coast Railway zone had gone to Bangalore to take part in a national level Rovers and Rangers camp held from November 1 to 4.
After the camp, the cadets were waiting for their train at Bangalore station for their return journey November 5. A TTE approached them and asked them to show their tickets. The cadets showed him their tickets, but he did not return these. When they asked for their tickets, the TTE allegedly got infuriated and abused and misbehaved with them. Still not satisfied, he along with some other staff herded them into a room where they were allegedly thrashed.
The TTE then registered a false case against the cadets following which five of them were arrested.
Their complaint also mentioned that the railway police at Bangalore had not received their complaints against the TTE.
Parents of the arrested cadets, who had gone to Bangalore to get them released, on bail returned here Friday.
The cadets, including Bhagyashree Behera, Mitarani Pattanayak, Chinmay Panda, Satyajit Mohapatra and Dillip Kumar Pattanayak, then went to Jatni police station to lodge a complaint against the TTE. However, the police refused to accept the complaint citing the place of occurrence was not under their jurisdiction. The cadets then registered the complaint with Khurda Road railway police.
When contacted, IIC, Khurda Road Railway police station, Santosh Bahinipati, said that they had accepted the complaint and after proper inquiry and discussions with higher officials, proper action would be taken.
However, despite repeated attempts, Bangalore railway police were not available to give comments.
