Koksara: In yet another shocking incident of crime against women, a married tribal woman was allegedly abducted by two miscreants from her house who subsequently gangraped her at Temara village under Koksara police limits in Kalahandi district.
Police swung into action after the victim’s husband lodged a written complaint Saturday and arrested one of the accused identified as Tulsiram Majhi (28) while the main accused, hailing from Mahima village, was still at large. Police seized an Alto car which was used to abduct the woman.
According to sources, the victim’s husband worked as a bonded labourer in a neighbouring state. The woman lived alone with her in-laws.
Sources said the incident took place July 14 on the occasion of ‘Bahuda Yatra’. Taking the advantage of her husband’s absence, the main accused called the woman on the pretext of some work. He asked her to sit in his Alto car and took her to an isolated place near the village where Tulsiram was waiting.
Later, the duo pounced on her and outraged her modesty. The duo took turns and raped her throughout the night. They threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone. Fearing for her life, the victim left for her parents’ home without informing the matter to anyone. The matter came to fore after the victim reached home and narrated her ordeal to her parents.
On learning the incident, the victim’s parents alerted her in-laws who in turn alerted her husband. The incident took place July 14 and the victim’s husband reported the matter July 23 to police after returning from the neighbouring state. The incident spread outrage in the village after relatives learnt of the incident. Irate relatives demanded immediate arrest of the accused and warned of a mass demonstration.
Acting on a written complaint by the victim’s husband, police registered a case and arrested Tulsiram while the main accused was still at large. An investigation into the case is on, sub-inspector Kalyanmayee Senda said. We will arrest the accused very soon, she added. PNN
