Berhampur: Tension prevailed at Berhampur City College here in Ganjam district after a Plus II student was reportedly stabbed by some anti-socials over previous enmity due to college election Monday. He was rescued and admitted to the City Hospital, where his condition was normal after treatment.
The police registered a case based on a complaint from the injured student and launched a probe. He was identified as Bikash Pradhan. Sources said the incident occurred while Pradhan was in the college premises with his friend Suman Sarab.
Meanwhile, at least 10 non-students armed with sharp-edged weapons reached the college on their motorbikes. They launched a sudden attack on Pradhan before he could understand anything. The miscreants also attacked his friend Sarab.
Later, they fled after other students rushed to the spot and alerted the college authorities. Bikash said that he had previous enmity with his college mates over college election. He accused his college mates for the attack. Pradhan also informed the police about a few suspects who had hired the non-students to attack him, it was learnt.
On the other hand, Pradhan’s friend claimed that the police was sitting idle although several complaints were lodged earlier as well regarding such acts by non-students. The students also accused the college authorities of not ensuring the safety of students.
It may be noted here that a student was earlier beaten to death in the college. Many a times, college properties were vandalised due to group clash between students. However, the college authorities have failed miserably to bring an end to such violent acts at the campus.
