Berhampur: Police swung into action and detained at least 10 persons Tuesday night following firing at former Berhampur Mayor cum BJP leader Sibashankar Das alias Pintu in a bid to kill him while he was at a marriage function Thursday.
Preliminary investigations revealed sharp shooters were hired to gun down Pintu. The deal was cut at a whopping Rs1cr. However, Pintu survived without injuries as the bullets grazed his head.
The miscreants had earlier hurled bombs at the house of Pintu, who served a sentence and is now out on bail. After the bomb attack a few weeks back, Pintu used kept himself indoors in his house.
However, the miscreants again attacked Pintu while he was returning from a marriage function. The bullets missed him after the miscreants fired repeated rounds at him. Luckily, he escaped and shouted for help after which the miscreants fled.
While Pintu claimed it was a pre-planned murder attempt, police are yet to identify the miscreants and persons behind the huge contract money. When contacted, Town police SDPO Prabhat Chandra Routroy said a probe was on. PNN
