100 bombs, 5 guns seized from threshing floor

Sorada: Acting on a tip-off, police seized over 100 crude bombs and five guns from a paddy yard and arrested six persons in this connection at Suramani village here in Ganjam district late Tuesday night.

The explosives and guns were buried under the ground and were seized during a raid, the police said. Accused Bhagaban Behera, Brunda Behera, Sunil Behera, Debaraj Behera, Brundaban Behera and Narayan Behera were arrested in the wee hours of Wednesday and later produced in a court.

Sources said two groups of villagers were always at loggerheads and picked up fights at the slightest pretext. The seizure has foiled a possible clash between the two groups, it was learnt.

The raid took place after intelligence inputs alerted the police about the illegal storing of arms and explosives in the village. A team led by Sorada police station IIC Santosh Kumar Jena raided the village and unearthed the arms.

Earlier, the police had arrested seven persons and had seized four country-made guns, two swords and four live bombs August 11. Jena said police will not allow the anti-social elements to disturb peace in the village.  PNN
