Berhampur/Digapahandi: Eleven people were injured in incidents of violence at two different places under Kabisuryanagar and Digapahandi police limits in Ganjam district, police said Tuesday.
Eight, including three women, were injured after members of two families in Jharipadar village under Digapahandi police limits attacked each other over a boundary between their respective houses. The injured were admitted to the Digapahandi community health centre.
The clash took place when the family members of N Arakhita Reddy attacked their relative N Erudu Reddy and N Aralu Reddy following an ugly tiff over the issue. Both sides have filed two separate complaints in the police station.
In the second incident, three cousins were injured after miscreants attacked them over past enmity at Bolsar under Kabisuryanagar police limits. Susant Dalai (27), Manu Dalai (25) and Krushna Dalai were admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
The violent incident took place after Butu Dalai (23), one of the younger brothers of Susant, went missing after boarding a train for home from Surat in September. The two were working in Surat. Family members searched for Butu but he remained untraced.
Meanwhile, Susant visited home in November to attend the post-death rituals of his grandfather. Susant, suspecting involvement of one of his uncles in the missing of Butu, visited his uncle’s home and enquired about his brother but in vain. When the cousins came back and were discussing the matter, four bike-borne youths attacked them with swords during a power cut Tuesday evening. Police registered a case and started an investigation.
Political clash: 64 booked; 8 held
Chandbali: Two political groups clashed at Burujal under this block in Bhadrak district Monday evening, leaving 10 persons injured. Two complaints were filed at the police station. Police have booked 64 persons of both sides and arrested eight persons Tuesday. A police team led by IIC Minati Biswal has been carrying out raids at different places to make more arrests while most male persons have fled the village. Trouble began when BJP activists were doing rounds of the village after a meeting. Workers of another party passed a comment at them which led to a clash. There was brick-batting which left 10 people injured while some houses were damaged. The injured were admitted to the district headquarters hospital. Police were deployed in the village to maintain peace.
