119kg ganja seized in Kalahandi, two arrested

Bhawanipatna: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch (CB) Thursday seized cannabis worth more than 10 lakh from Dharmagarh area in Kalahandi district. Two men were arrested while they were smuggling the contraband to West Bengal from here.

The two accused have been identified as Thirtharaj Sagar and Chandrasen Meher.

According to sources, acting on a tip-off, a team of STF conducted a raid while the accused were transporting the cannabis through a vehicle from the district to West Bengal Thursday morning. The team intercepted the vehicle at Dharmagarh and detained the accused duo.

During a search of the two vehicles, the cops recovered 181 packets of ganja weighing 119 kilogram. Besides that, they seized the vehicle and seven mobile phones from their possession.

The STF has registered a case at Dharmagarh police station in this regard and is probing the accused duo to uncover the modus operandi and involvement of others in the illegal trade.
