12-hr Rairangpur bandh successful

Rairangpur/Bisoi: A 12-hour bandh at Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district observed by various political parties, the local bar association and other outfits over the demand for creation of a separate Paschima Mayurbhanj district was successful Thursday.

Vehicular movement was paralysed while civil court, the sub-collector’s office, government and private offices, educational institutions and commercial establishments remained closed in response to the bandh call, a report said.

Passengers in Tatanagar-Badampahad DMU train had a tough time when agitators detained the train. It was delayed by a few hours as a result.

Leaders of various political parties, activists of organisations and lawyers picketed at different places and clamoured for the demand for a new revenue district for western Mayurbhanj.

Hundreds of people from these organisations picketed in front of the sub-collector’s office at Rairangpur Thursday.

Leaders of Congress, BJP, BJD and KMM participated in the agitation and pointed out multiple basic problems in Rairangpur sub-division.

Paschima Mayurbhanj Nutan Zilla Gathan Kriyanusthan Committee claimed that the 12-hour Rairangpur bandh was successful. The committee has been demanding creation of Rairangpur district from Mayurbhanj, after some media reported that the government was mulling creation of four more districts in the state.
