Kankadahada, May 27: In a shocking incident, a 12-year-old boy was hacked to death by a village youth in Gadapalasuni village under Parjang police limits in Dhenkanal district over superstition Wednesday.
The victim was identified as Anshuman Samal alias Gudu, son of Surendra samal in the village. Accused Sukanta Samal after killing the minor roamed on the village road carrying the severed head and even assaulted a villager after he raised an alarm on noticing the incident.
Later he surrendered himself at the Mahabirod police outpost with the murder weapon claiming to have committed the act after receiving the command to kill the child in dreams. Police arrested him and started an investigation. Police however, claimed the incident happened because of a family dispute.
The incident occurred when Anshuman set out on his bicycle to pluck flowers for puja. He was returning home with flowers when Sukanta who was hiding gave a blow on neck of the former with an axe.
As Anshuman dropped on road, Sukanta severed his head and carried it towards the village cremation ground. When some villagers noticed him and raised an alarm he assaulted one Santan Samal with an axe and fled. Sanatan sustained critical injuries on his nose.
