Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Monday directed to provide houses to 13,000 families under the Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana (BPGY) whose houses were damaged by the Titli cyclonic storm October 11.
Sources in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said a sum of Rs 176 crore would be spent for the purpose. A decision has been taken to entrust the responsibility of arranging the construction material for the houses to local business people and the self help groups (SHGs). Additional funds would be provided to SHG for the purpose.
Sources said the UNDP would be requested to help in the preparation of construction materials, training of masons and to provide livelihood to the cyclone-affected people. Meanwhile, Chief Secretary AP Padhi reviewed the progress of restoration work and directed to finish the distribution of house building material and agricultural inputs subsidy by end of the current month.
The houses will be given in two districts—Gajapati and Ganjam. He asked panchyati raj secretary DK Singh to execute the new BPGY houses from December this year.
The house building assistance will be provided along with Rs 1 lakh assistance from the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) to the families whose houses have been totally damaged in the severe cyclone and the subsequent flood.
