Bhubaneswar, June 6: A whopping 145 students of Class XI of the various branches of DAV Public School in the city have illegally been deprived of promotion to the next class by school authorities, alleged the parents of the students here.
DAV conducted an informal school assessment tests for Class XI students at short notice and as such the students did not get time to prepare for the examination, according to the parents.
Of those who took the examination, 145 failed to secure good marks and as such have been denied promotion, they said.
Parents of the detained students have written to school and mass education minister Debi Prasad Mishra to resolve the problem.
The number of classes held were not enough, examinations were held before the course was completed, alleged Gyanendra Tripathy, a parent.
“Teachers have not paid proper attention to the students and the school has also conducted the test at short notice. This has resulted in students faring poorly in the test,” he said.
Parents have further alleged that though the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) rules do not call for detention of students after in-house assessment, the DAV authorities have taken this step and detained 145 students.
They are also not bothered about organising a re-test and giving the students a second chance, parents alleged.
DAV authorities could not be reached for comments despite repeated attempts.
