Bhubaneswar: The 17th Odisha Environment Congress (OES), scheduled to be held at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, from November 3 to 5, will focus on climate change, biodiversity conservation, environmental protection, sustainable development and the use of technology to protect natural resources.
A preparatory meeting held here Saturday to discuss the successful organisation of the three-day Congress deliberated on various environmental challenges facing Odisha and the role of technology in promoting sustainable development and environmental conservation.
The meeting also discussed the impact of technological advancement on the environment and the potential of technology-driven solutions to address the challenges posed by climate change. The theme of this year’s congress is ‘Environment and Technology’.
The meeting was chaired by Odisha Environment Congress president Aravinda Behera, who made a detailed presentation on the overall plan, programme structure and preparations for the event. As in previous years, the Children’s Environment Congress will also be organised as part of the event.
Various competitions will be held among students of Classes VIII to XII to encourage greater awareness and participation in environmental protection. Creative projects focusing on environmental conservation will be showcased, while an Environment Parliament will provide young students with a platform to deliberate on environmental challenges and explore possible solutions.
The meeting also decided to invite applications and nominations for the Professor Radhamohan Green Ambassador Award, Padma Shri Ajay Parida Young Scientist Award, SB Mishra Green Corporate Award and Abasar Beura Young Environmentalist Award.
The awards are aimed at recognising individuals and organisations making significant contributions to environmental protection, scientific research, corporate environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
