Nabarangpur: A group of 19 bonded labourers has been rescued by a joint team of the state labour department and police in Nabarangpur district Wednesday.
On a tip-off, officials with help from local police intercepted a private bus in the town here and rescued six minor girls, four minor boys, six women and three children from the vehicle. They were from Raighar area, being trafficked by middleman Krushna of Chilika from Puri district. Police said they were being taken to Vishakhapatnam for work at a construction site.
Krushna managed to escape during the raid. Efforts were on to nab him. Arrangements will be made to return the victims to their native place, police said.
May 13, at least 14 bonded labourers were rescued by police from Bheunria village under Padampur tehsil in Bargarh district. They were being trafficked to Barpalli from Paikmal in the district for work.
