New Delhi: A Delhi court Tuesday after hearing issued production warrant against senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar who was punished with life imprisonment in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case following the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Delhi Metropolitan Magistrate December 31 after hearing the surrender application sent to prison Sajjan Kumar who was punished with life imprisonment by Delhi High Court in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.
Delhi High Court December 20 dismissed the plea of Sajjan Kumar for granting 30 days time to surrendering before the Court.
In this matter trial court found guilty former Congress councillor Balwan Khokhar, retired Naval officer Captain Bhagmal, Girdhari Lal and two others in the case relating to the murder of five members of a family in Raj Nagar area of Delhi Cantonment November 1, 1984 after the assassination of the then Prime Minister.
The Court had acquitted Sajjan Kumar but awarded the life term to Khokhar, Bhagmal and Lal and a three-year jail term to two former MLA Mahender Yadav and Kishan Khokhar. The convicted persons had challenged their conviction and sentencing order of the trial court May, 2013.
Supreme Court Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justices Ashok Bhushan and Sanjay Kishan Kaul after hearing the appeal against sentence on behalf of Sajjan Kumar had earlier issued notice to Delhi Government and Central Bureau of Investigation.
The Court Tuesday also heard another case of Sajjan Kumar in connection with Sultanpuri case in 1984 anti- Sikh riots case and issued production warrant against him for January 28.
