Bhubaneswar: Congratulating twin city Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi and his team of officials for arresting the prime accused in the sensational 1999 Barang gangrape case, Governor Ganeshi Lal Thursday recommended the state government to recognise the outstanding detective work as it would inspire others to work towards securing justice in crimes against women.
Appreciating the achievement of the police top brass and his team, the Governor wrote to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, “It gives me immense pleasure to note that Odisha Police under the leadership of Dr. Sudhanshu Sarangi, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Twin City Commissionerate has been successful in arresting one of the prime accused in a heinous crime which occurred 22 years back in a sensational case in the year 1999.”
The letter added, “It has brought laurel to the State Police for their dedication and commitment to the profession. There is a need to recognize such outstanding performers in a befitting manner which will inspire others in a great way.”
According to sources, the twin city Commissionerate Police (CP) with help of Pune Rural Police launched the operation ‘Silent Viper’ and tracked down Bibekananda Biswal alias Biban, the prime accused in the sensational Anjana Mishra gangrape case in 1999, from Amby Valley in Lonavala.
The last of the three accused in the gangrape case that led to the exit of then Congress chief minister JB Patnaik was working as a plumber in Maharashtra using the pseudonym of Jalandhar Swain for the past 22 years.
