A meagre 464 candidates, out of the registered unemployed youths, got employment between 2014 and September 2017
Bhubaneswar: The number of registered unemployed youths, who have completed their technical education in various institutions, has touched about 1 lakh in Orissa, said a minister Thursday.
Replying to a written question of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Balabhadra Majhi, Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Usha Devi told the Assembly that 99,445 technical candidates are in live registration with different employment exchanges by September 2017.
Out of them, 88,837 are male and 10,608 are female, said the minister.
While 46,749 ITI candidates have registered with employment exchanges, 37,029 are diploma holders, 14,296 are degree candidates and 741 are post graduates.
The minister said that a total 464 candidates, out of the registered unemployed youths, have got employment between 2014 and September 2017.
Besides, 4,096 ITI and diploma candidates have been recruited through the central placement cell.
The minister said the state government has constituted Orissa Skill Development Authority to provide skill development to youths.
Moreover, a new programme called Chief Minister’s Employment Generation Programme has been launched in 2014-15 for creating employment and self employment of youths in the state. The government has planned to include 11 lakh youths under the programme between 2014-15 and 2018-19, the minister added.
The government has already provided skill development training to 5.97 lakh youths under the programme by October this year.
The government has created 70 skill development centres in the state to provide skill development training, the minister said.
