Cuttack: Commissionerate police arrested two associates of Dhalasamanta mafia brothers who were helping the criminal siblings handle their business from Gandarpur in the district Monday.
The CP arrested Ram Das, who was handling the arms business of the duo along with his brother Krushna Chandra alias Kuni, from their Gandarpur residence. Krushna managed to give the police a slip during their raids. Besides, police arrested a contractor, Bharat Bhusan Swain of Gandarpur who was helping the mafia brothers in running the tender fixing rackets.
The CP seized four 9mm mousers, 160 live bullets and nine magazines from the Gandarpur residence of Ram and his brother. Similarly, Rs 12.44 lakh was seized from the contractor, said deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Sanjeev Arora at a press conference.
After the arrest of Sushil and Sushant, Krushna along with his brother Ram was running the arms business on behalf of the siblings. The police had received intelligence inputs about the criminals and conducted the raids.
Sources said after arrest of the Dhalasamanta brothers and seizure of a huge cache of arms and ammunition from their CDA Sector-6 residence Friday, the CP had focused their attention to nab their accomplices. More raids are on to nab the associates of the criminal brothers in Chauliaganj police limits, police said.
On the other hand, the contractor could not account for the cash recovered from him and was arrested. The CP will seek the help of income tax department to ascertain their financial transactions. A case was registered against the contractor at Chauliaganj police station, Arora said. The two were later produced in a court, Arora added.
7-day remand
The sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) court of Cuttack Monday allowed the police to take the gangster brothers on a seven-day remand. The CP had sought 10-day remand of Sushant Dhalasamanta and his brother Sushil, but the court granted seven days’ remand. The criminal siblings were brought from Choudwar jail under high security. PNN
