Bhubaneswar: The Higher Education department has formed two new regional directorates of education at Jeypore and Balasore.
The department Friday issued a resolution on formation of the two new directorates. With this, the state is now having regional directorates at five places—Sambalpur, Berhampur, Bhubaneswar, Jeypore and Balasore.
The government has set up the two new regional directorates of education with a view to lessen the work pressure among the existing regional directorates of education (RDEs) and strengthen monitoring and supervision of the educational programmes of the state government.
“There is a need for greater enforcement of regulatory measures for implementation of Orissa Education Act. The existing three RDEs are not able to pay required attention to the regulatory work for proper supervision, control and maintenance of standard education,” the government said.
The five regional directorates will look after the matters relating to both higher education and school and mass education departments (higher secondary education) by doing rationalisation of the existing staff among the five RDEs of the state.
However, the directorates will look after the affairs relating to School and Mass Education department till alternative arrangements are not made for the Plus II colleges.
Accordingly, the government has also earmarked the jurisdictions of the directorates. The regional directorate in Bhubaneswar will look after the fairs of districts like Angul, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Khurda, Nayagarh and Puri while Berhampur directorate will deal with the matters of colleges in Boudh, Gajapati, Ganjam and Kandhamal.
Similarly, Bargarh, Bolangir, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Sambalpur, Sonepur and Sundargarh have been allotted to the Sambalpur directorate and Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Rayagada districts to be deal by Jeypore directorate.
The newly formed directorate at Balasore will look after Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.
