Rourkela: Two youths in Chandiposh police station area in Sundargarh district took two minor girls out Thursday night on the pretext of showing them an opera and allegedly raped them on the way.
The accused were identified as Kishore Haro and his friend Binod Toppo. Chandiposh police arrested the duo after the families of the two victims lodged a complaint in the police station.
The incident occurred when Haro and Toppo contacted the two girls over phone and told them to accompany them to see an opera at Lathikata. They took the minors on their bicycles at 6 pm.
After going some distance, the duo stopped by an abandoned house and raped the girls there. Family members searched for them in all possible locations after the girls failed to return home by night.
The minors managed to reach their houses the next day and narrated the incident to their parents. Family members informed the village committee which called a meeting and asked the two youths to marry the victims. However, the families of the accused youths turned down the proposal. Later, the family members of the minors lodged a complaint in the police station leading to the arrest of the youths.
