Locals on their way to relieve themselves spotted the baby and rescued it. Luckily, the baby was safe. It survived the chilling weather throughout the night
Buguda/Jajpur: In spite of awareness programmes launched by the government and NGOs, two fresh cases of abandoning of two newborns came to light Tuesday.
Just a day after a newborn girl was rescued from a paddy field in Sambalpur, locals of Sorad village under Buguda police limits in Ganjam district rescued a newborn boy from a bush near the village early Tuesday morning.
Locals on their way to relieve themselves spotted the baby and rescued it. Luckily, the baby was safe. It had survived the chilling weather throughout the night. No wild animals, insects or stray dogs had attacked him.
With the help of local ASHA worker Jhunu Gouda and Anganwadi worker Mahalaxmi Mishra, the baby was admitted to Belguntha community health centre (CHC).
The baby was safe now. Later, a couple of the village came forward and took the baby home after treatment. However, the decision would be taken after the arrival of the police and the CWC team.
The villagers, however, expressed resentment and described the act as ‘inhumane’ which shouldn’t be tolerated.
While it was not immediately known as to who had dumped the baby, the villagers suspected it was the handiwork of an unwed mother who might have dumped the baby in the bush.
The villagers also urged the police to look for the parents of the child and take action.
Similarly, a newborn girl was found from a bamboo bush in Salepur village of Mirzapur panchayat under Dharmashala block in Jajpur district.
Villagers spotted the baby, sleeping in the bamboo bush after she was being dumped by its parents. With the help of the local ASHA worker, the villagers provided proper care to the baby, before informing the Childline officials.
Later, the Childline officials arrived at the village and took the baby that was later admitted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH). The condition of the baby is stated to be stable now.
