Rourkela, Jan 13: Two operatives of the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), allegedly involved in abduction of four officials of Jharkhand mining department last year, were arrested during an ongoing anti-Naxal operation in West Singhbhum district, a senior police officer said Tuesday.
Acting on information that a group of ultras have assembled in Tilaisud village under Muffasil police
station, security personnel led by Superintendent of Police NK Singh conducted a raid on the house of Ramkamal Das, an ultra, and
arrested Sonaram Sundhi.
Addressing a press conference at Chaibasa in Jharkhand Tuesday, Singh said the security personnel chased the duo and caught Sonaram while others members of the outfit, including the head of the squad Amar Gudia, managed to flee. Gudia carries a bounty of `1 lakh on his head, Singh added. “While a rifle, a magazine and five live cartridges were recovered from Sonaram, the police also recovered four rifles, five live cartridges, one mobile handset and Naxal literature from Das’ house,” Singh said.
Sonaram of Purunapani under Tonto police limits was accused in the killing of a villager a few days ago under Goilkera police station and the duo were also involved in kidnapping of four Jharkhand mines department officials December last.
The ultra was lodged in jail for years for killing Budhram Sundhi, elder brother of Sikandar Sundhi who had allegedly murdered Sonaram’s father Manay Sundhi over a land dispute of 2006. He also had killed Charlis Diggi, a villager, for allegedly collecting ransom in the name of the party.
Sonaram, following his release from the jail, joined the rebel group after coming in contact with PLFI’s active member Ajay Purti, police said. Meanwhile, a massive anti-Naxal operation ‘Kaaro II’ was launched by the security personnel to flush out ultras from the Naxal-affected areas of the district.
