Bargarh: Two women farmhands were killed while three others rendered critical after lightning struck them while they were working at a farm at Nileipali village under Atabira police limits in this district Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Mini Mirdha (48), wife of Hadu Mirdha, and Subalaya Mirdha, (30) wife of Jagat Mirdha, of the same village. Three other women labourers were rendered critical in the incident.
They were Bilas Mirdha (22), wife of Kunda Mirdha, Lochana Mirdha (32), wife of Ranjit Mirdha and Raibari Mirdha (30). The injured were admitted to Burla-based VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research.
The incident occurred when the women labourers were transplanting paddy saplings at the farm of a villager. The incident has spread shockwaves in the area.
